Esther Burns Limper Obituary
Esther Burns Limper
Esther Burns Limper, 99, a long-time Yuba City resident, died on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Prestige Assisted Living in Chico.

Esther Wilhelmina Burns was the granddaughter of John J. Burns and Catherine Anderson, Irish immigrants who were among the original settlers in southeastern Minnesota in the early 1850s. The third child of Robert Burns and Emma Grohman, she was born in Caledonia, MN on August 1, 1916 and attended Winona State College following graduation from Loretto High School in 1933.

Her father died during the height of the Depression and Esther left college for a position in the Houston County, MN Treasurer's office, where she ultimately served as Deputy County Treasurer. She met Army 1st Lieutenant Tillman C. "Tex" Limper of Monterey, CA in 1943 through a Catholic newspaper program encouraging women to write to men of their faith serving in the Armed Forces during World War II. They married in Caledonia in August 1944 and moved to Alamogordo, NM. Following the war, they resided in Chico, CA where Tex worked as an auditor for the State Board of Equalization. A job transfer in 1948 took them to Yuba City, where the Limpers raised five children. Esther worked for the California Department of Motor Vehicles from 1963 to 1973.

Esther was well known for her kindness and willingness to help anyone in need. Throughout her 60+ years in Yuba City, she was an active volunteer, particularly at St. Isidore parish and Holy Angels School, where she served as President of the Mothers Guild and the Altar Society. She was also an active member of the Rideout Hospital Auxiliary and Retired Public Employees Association.

Esther moved to Chico in 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband Tex in 1996 and a daughter, Patricia Tyler of Sacramento in 2013.

Survivors include their remaining four children, Marcia Fulham of Alexandria, VA, Carolyn Argall of Winchester, VA, Stephen Limper of Yuba City, and Thomas Limper of Chico, their spouses, nine grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Isidore Catholic Church, Yuba City, California, on Saturday, August 22, at 12:00 noon, preceded by the Rosary at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private. Donations in Esther's memory may be made to the retired Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (http://www.snddenca.org/)
