Evelyn Mary Goetz Bullard Bryan Obituary

Evelyn Bryan, age 90, of Yuba City, passed away on July 22, 2014 at Rideout Medical Center. Evelyn was born on April 12, 1924 in Yuba City to Antone "Tony" and Mary "Mamie" DaCosse Goetz.

Evelyn grew up on her parents' ranch on Garden Highway, their dairy ranch at Ostrom in Yuba County, and their lumber mill in Clipper Mills, where she learned a strong work ethic.

In 1942, Evelyn married Loring Vernon Bullard. In 1956, they divorced and Evelyn found herself in the position of a single parent and sole provider for herself and her three children. Evelyn went to work as a waitress, and then at Bank of America. One day, she saw an ad in the newspaper that the Beauty College was having an essay contest with the first prize being a paid scholarship to the school. She submitted the essay and won the scholarship. Being a hairdresser was her dream as she enjoyed styling and giving home perms to her family and friends. For many years, Evelyn owned a beauty shop, the Magic Wand Beauty Salon next to the Sutter Theatre on Plumas Street. Later, with her husband, Bill Bryan, she owned the 7-Eleven on the corner of Butte House Road and Stabler Avenue for 15 years, retiring in 1992. Evelyn was a founding member of 7-Eleven Owners Association.

Evelyn's whole world revolved around her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren, who she loved very much and was so very proud of. Evelyn was kind, loving and generous to not only her family, friends, and employees, but to people around her. Once she met someone, she considered them a friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and never took herself seriously.

Evelyn was survived by her beloved children: Larry Bullard of West Sacramento, Deanna Prothero of Yuba City, and Terry Bullard (Phyllis) of Yuba City, and her step children; Lester Bryan of El Sobrante, California, Lavonne (Eric) Eichner of El Cerrito, California, and Carol Burgin of Gresham, Oregon.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Timothy (Crystal) Bullard, Angela (Kevin) Shields, and step-grandchildren, Edward (Lora) Prothero of Roseville and Michael (Renee) and Robert Prothero of Yuba City, and her great grandchildren: Jordan Bullard, Brennan Bullard, Carson Bullard, Dylan Shields, and Lauren Shields, Tierza Prothero, Ryan Prothero, and Steven Prothero.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William "Bill" Bryan, her siblings, Charles Goetz, Margaret Hendricks, and Virginia Goetz, and her son-in-law, Edward Prothero.

Graveside services will be held at the Sutter Cemetery, 7200 Butte Road, in Sutter on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Jim Anderson officiating. Arrangement under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
