F. Ramon Burke III Obituary

Long time Yuba County rancher, F. Ramon Burke III, passed away August 15, 2014 in Auburn, California. He was 74 years old. Ramon came to the Yuba County area in the late 1960's, living and ranching in south Yuba County. He moved to a higher elevation in Nevada County some 12 years ago to ease his struggle with respiratory disease. Over the years, Ramon was active locally, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Plumas Elementary School District for several terms.

Ramon was born in Quincy, Massachusetts to Catherine and Francis R. Burke Jr. on May 7, 1940. The family soon moved to San Mateo County in the Bay area where the family started a manufacturing business. Ramon attended the Stevenson school and Menlo College. He later went on to earn two Masters Degrees and a PhD. His military service was with the Army Airborne in France and Germany. After the death of his parents, Ramon moved to his ranch south of Marysville raising cattle and rice. He was an avid Cal and 49er fan and a life time member of Ducks Unlimited.

Ramon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Huntley Burke, who had brightened his life even after her passing. He is missed by his step children, Jennifer Huntley, Erin Huntley Castle, and Sean Huntley, his aunt, Mary Terpak of Virginia, and many, many close friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Bonanza Inn, 1001 Clark Avenue, Yuba City on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please send any remembrances to Ducks Unlimited, 3074 Gold Canal Drive, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670 or to .
