Frances Jeanne Broce Obituary

Frances Jeanne Broce, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne, as she was called, was born in Santa Cruz, CA to John Stanley Frykland and Mabel Curtis Frykland. She graduated from Burlingame High School in Burlingame, CA and later on received her A.A. degree from Yuba College. Jeanne was married to Kenneth D. Broce, who passed away in 1989, for thirty-nine years.

Jeanne was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Marysville for many years. During that time, she was a member of St. John's Altar Guild and sang in the choir. Her proudest accomplishment, however, was in helping to establish the St. John's Food Shelf, which continues to this day, distributing food to low income and indigent people.

Jeanne was also an active volunteer and paid employee with the American Red Cross. She and her husband, Ken, first became involved in the Red Cross in 1986, when a levee broke on the Yuba River, causing massive flooding. Following that, Jeanne worked tirelessly providing disaster assistance and setting up shelters all over the United States, including Texas, California, North Carolina and Washington State. In 1989, Jeanne was sent to American Samoa to assist following a massive storm. Jeanne was also in charge of the Red Cross office at Beale Air Force Base for a number of years.

Jeanne is survived by her children, Margaret Whittaker, Stephen Broce, Mary Logan, Marsha Brown and Maureen Vallance, as well as twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will take place at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Avenue, Yuba City, between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015. There will be a memorial service for Jeanne on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 8th and D Street, Marysville. She will be interred privately at Sutter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the American Red Cross or St. John's Food Shelf.
