Fredrick E. "Fred" Norris Obituary

America has said goodbye to another of its greatest generation with the passing of Fredrick Ellsworth Norris on July 26, 2015. Fred quietly slipped away at his home in Brownsville, CA, with his wife by his side.

Fred was born February 16, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa to Homer and Fern Swindler Norris. He was the last surviving member of a family of five children of which included three brothers and one sister.

Graduating from High School in 1939 he came to CA and enlisted in the National Guard. He was promptly called to active duty on December 7th 1941. He was sent to Ft. Lewis in Washington and was assigned to the Medical Corps. There he did rehab and was a physical therapy tech. Being reassigned to Hawaii he then joined the 6th Bn. Army Rangers. As part of the Rangers he saw active combat duty on the islands of Quadualne, Maken, and was wounded on the island of Okinawa. After his discharge from the service he held many different jobs including psych tech and rehab specialist. In 1948, he rejoined the Army and became a meat grader and food inspector working in Southern CA until retirement from the service in 1963 completing nearly 22 years of service.

Seeing an ad for property in Rackerby, he bought and raised cattle for short time. While living in Rackerby he also worked at Fremont Hospital in central supply. For a short time he also lived at and worked as security at the gold fields. He has also worked as security in Southern CA during the Watts riots.

Fred and his first wife were divorced in 1962. They had one remaining son, Fredrick Norris of Southern CA. His second wife died in 1996. He met and later married Genie (Mouse) Massicotte in 2001 who survives him. In addition to his son he is survived by four stepsons and three grandchildren.

Fred was a past member of Forbestown Lodge F&AM, The Scottish Rite Bodies of Sacramento, The Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento, and the Eastern Star of Oroville.

Fred also enjoyed playing Pinochle and Cribbage, often playing in tournaments.

A celebration of life will be held at the Brownsville Cemetery in Brownsville at 11 A.M. on August 8th with Pastor Rich Prickett officiating. Following services a potluck will be held at the Ponderosa Community Center in Brownsville.
