Gerald M. Reynolds, DDS went to sleep in the Lord peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2014. A prominent dentist in the Yuba City area from 1969 until 1991 when he and his wife Carolyn semi-retired to Penn Valley.

Born in Los Angeles to Earl Robert & Maud Reynolds, he completed his undergraduate work at La Sierra College of Riverside, CA and his MS in Pharmacology at Howard University in Washington DC. He taught sciences at Takoma Academy while attending school and finished his dental degree at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA in 1969.

Dr. Reynolds served in the U.S. Army and finished his career in the Naval Reserves as a Lt. Commander.

He held memberships and offices in many local and national dental societies and organizations. Dr. Reynolds earned many recognitions and numerous awards for outstanding achievement in the field of Forensic Odontology from the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. He developed an instrument for identifying human bite-marks. This technology has been used in many criminal cases. He is a past president of the American Society of Forensic Odontology and he was active in the passing of California Assembly Bill #81 in 1978 whereby all California's 58 counties could share missing persons medical records.

Dr. Reynolds loved the outdoors, was an avid reader, gardener and ham radio enthusiast. Mission Work was dear to Dr. Reynolds' heart as he was raised in India as the child of missionaries. He continued the tradition, when in 1993, he established the first dental clinic in the Republic of Djibouti under the Seventh-day Adventist Church's Global Mission. His God and His Church were the continual focus of his life and he remained, until his death, a life-long man of faith. Dr. Reynolds held many valuable positions in the Adventist Church.

Dr. Reynolds is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Evens) of Penn Valley and five children, Cheryl Wilson (Don) of Bemidji, MN, Garry Jr. (Eileen) of Sacramento, CA, Glenn (Barbara) of Bemidji, MN, Thomas of Bemidji, MN and Robert (Heidi) of Bemidji, MN. His three step-children, Karen Chamberlain (Donald) of Chattanooga, TN, Marjorie Ermshar of Penn Valley, CA and Dr. Eric Jon Knutson DDS (Denise) of Sacramento, CA. He has ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Penn Valley Seventh-day Adventist church. with Dr. Douglas Tilstra, presiding.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be sent to Penn Valley Seventh-day Adventist church at 17645 Penn Valley Dr., Penn Valley, CA 95946 for the "Mussoorie Project" of India.
