Harjit Kaur Atwal Obituary

Harjit Kaur Atwal, 85, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016, with her loving family gathered by her side. Harjit was born on May 7, 1931 in Henzada, Burma to Beant Kaur Dulai (Poonia) and Gajjan Singh Dulai. At the age of 11, she moved to Partabpura, India with her parents and siblings. In 1960, Harjit Kaur Atwal married Jagjit Singh Atwal and they settled in the state of Punjab, India. She moved to the United States in 1994 and had been a resident of Live Oak, California for 22 years.

A tiny lady with a big heart, Harjit Kaur Atwal always enjoyed being in the company of her family. Possessing a benevolent and kind soul, she played an integral role in raising her nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces with tender love and affection. Especially notable was her beaming smile whenever she was in the presence of her loved ones.

Harjit was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Harjit Singh Dulai, Pritam Singh Dulai (Pritam), Kuldip Singh Dulai, Amrik Singh Dulai, and her sisters Manjit Kaur Gill (Ram), and Rajinder Kaur Johal (Puran).

She is survived by her brother Dalip Singh Dulai (Sundri) of San Jose, her sister-in-law Sukhjinder Kaur Dulai of New York, her sister-in-law Inderjit Kaur Dulai of Live Oak, CA, and her brother Swarn Singh Dulai (Surinder) of Virginia. She is also survived by many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, great-great- nephews, and great- great-nieces.

Prayer and cremation services will begin at 12:30 PM at Chapel of the Twin Cities, 715 Shasta Street, Yuba City, California 95991 on Saturday, September 17, 2016, officiated by Giani Joginder Singh. Langar and Bhog services will follow at Sri Guru Nanak Sikh Temple at 2269 Bogue Road, Yuba City, CA 95993.
