Harold E. Draper Obituary

Harold Draper was born January 16, 1925 in Millington, MI, and passed into Heaven on February 22, 2016 at age 91, surrounded by his family at The Fountains.

Raised on a farm with lots of machinery, tractors, and cars, Harold became fascinated by all things mechanical at a very young age. Stories abound of his dismantling the tractor and truck to see how they worked. But the amazing thing was he even put them back together. This was the beginning of his life's work.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII and ended up at Camp Beale, Marysville CA. Loving the weather and opportunities he found in the area, he and wife Elsiemay decided to settle in Marysville.

He worked for The Tourist Garage and Hamon Brothers Chrysler Plymouth dealership prior to opening Draper's Auto Repair and Towing in 1965. He was one of the first automatic transmission specialist in the area and could rebuild a transmission, or could instruct one how to do it, until his death. Harold closed the shop in 1988 and began his motorcycle era in earnest. Having learned to ride a motorcycle in the Army he had a succession of motorbikes to play with through the years. He started with a Honda 50 and moved up to a full dress Harley-Davison Electra Glide (Hog). His son Rick has many treasured memories of their road trips together.

In 1985, Harold married Doris Hughes Draper and they shared 27 years together riding the Harley, working in the yard, feeding the ducks from the lake, woodworking in his home shop and walking Cajn, the chewinnie, who misses him desperately.

Harold's daily routine always included morning coffee with best-friend George Smith. This routine expanded to a group of 5-8 cronies that meet daily at Carl's Jr in Marysville. Harold was known for his love of a good practical joke which many of his friends and family found themselves the victim.

Harold is survived by his children Cheryl Roberts (Lyn) of Mt. Morris NY, Rick Draper (Kathleen) of Oakland, CA, Kristie Ormosen (Dan) of Yuba City. His Grandchildren, Tamara Fraser (Jackie) , Shannon Gardner (Marc), Clint Ormosen (Rebecca), Eric Ormosen (Heather), Kelly Ormosen (Jonas), Helen Draper, Jack Draper, and Kimberly Bingham (Matt); and 14 great grandchildren. Three step children and many step-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his long-time caregiver and friend, Piper Henry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Sarah Draper, brothers Wilford Draper and Richard Draper, wife Doris Draper and former wife Elsiemay Draper.

Graveside services will be at Sutter Cemetery on Saturday, February 27, at 11 AM, under the direction of Chapel of the Twin-Cities.

The family suggests donations to a children's in Harold's memory.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Fountains for the excellent loving care they provided Harold during the last days of his life.
