Harold James "Jim" Mayfield Obituary

Harold James "Jim" Mayfield, age 86, of Yuba City died February 8, 2018, at Rideout Hospital. He was born in Moulmein, Burma, while his father, the late Isaac Mayfield, was working there. His mother, the late Beryl Goodin Mayfield was the granddaughter of an early Sutter County settler, John Simpson.

Jim graduated from San Juan Union High School in Citrus Heights. He joined the Army in 1950 and did his basic training at Fort Ord. He was sent to Korea with the First Cavalry Division as an infantryman and earned a CIB. He was discharged in 1953 and rejoined the Army in 1958 and was discharged in 1960.

He married Leah Beverly Costello in 1960 and they were married for 57 years. He attended Yuba College under the GI Bill, and graduated with an A.S. degree. He retired from Sutter Mutual Water Company in Robbins, California.

After retirement, Jim and his wife attended several First Cavalry Division Association reunions in Texas, Kentucky, Nevada and California. Jim and his wife loved traveling throughout the United States, seven short of all fifty states, and many foreign countries. Jim also loved to visit the local casinos as well as those in Reno and Laughlin, Nevada.

Jim is survived by his wife, Leah Beverly; sons, Martin Mayfield of Yuba City; Michael Mayfield (Cindy) of Cresco, Iowa; daughter, Marcy Brolliar (Kevin) of Yuba City; stepbrother, Douglas Haven (Martha) of Oceanside, California; stepsisters, Anona Havens Franz (Carl) of Acme, Washington; and Gayle Fitchett of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica Keen (Jon) of Sacramento; Christopher Yount (Heather) of Grovetown, Georgia; and Steven Yount of Georgia; and two great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ramona Farnworth; and stepmother, Marion Havens Mayfield.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with services following at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City, California.
