Harold Scrogin Obituary

Harold was born in Live Oak, California to Henry & Eudora Scrogin 20 minutes after his twin brother, Henry, on July 13, 1929. He went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2010. His wonderfully good natured disposition, hearty laugh, infectious smile and willingness to help anywhere will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved him. Harold was a life-long resident of Live Oak, graduating from Live Oak High School and attending Yuba College. He served in the military during the Korean War and kept his family enthralled and amused with stories of army life. He was a farmer for 50 years and a member of Sunsweet Growers. One of Harold's defining characteristics was his love of people and his family, who were the center of his life. He had great joy in serving others, working on any community project, as well as sharing the produce from his large garden and family orchard. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many happy hours with his friends and family enjoying these activities. He has been the recipient of many expressions of appreciation including the Citizen of the Year award, Grand Marshall of the Peach Festival Parade and "Lion" of the year along with his twin brother Henry. He was a charter member of the Live Oak Lions Club with 56 years of perfect attendance. He also served as chairman of the Live Oak Lion's Christmas Food Basket Program, assisted by his wife, for many years. Harold has been a devoted husband to Maxine for 57 years. He will be dearly missed by her and his children Peggy (Kennith) Bowen, Jack (Freddie) Rentz, his 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Henry (Darline) Scrogin, Willard (Jennifer) Scrogin, his sister Elinor (Ulysess) Self, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores "Lovey" (Robert) Clark. His great heart of generosity, loyalty and love for each one, is "Pop's" lasting legacy to us. Visitation will be at Ullrey Memorial Chapel from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2010. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at The Father's House in Live Oak on Highway 99. Memorial contributions may be made to the Live Oak Lion's Christmas Food Basket Program or to The American Cancer Society. Send Condolences at www.appealdemocrat.com

I am so sorry to hear of Harolds passing. What a great guy! I looked forward to seeing him at Live Oak events, and when he would come by for the calendar updates, I don't think we ever got done in less then an hour or more. He was a great story teller, and what a memory. I have learned so much about Live Oak from him. I remember I told him once, that I'll bet he had even more great stories about this town, and he smiled and winked and said he sure did, but some of them were better off not being retold! lol His community service work and his love of people and this area will not be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with all of us. I know that his example is an inspiration, and my family will dearly miss him. Rest in Peace Harold.

While Harold's time is now being spent with the Lord, it is sad he will be missed by such a large and loving family he so enjoyed and cared for.
Harold could captivate you with a story in Mark Twain fashion, then make you laugh and before you knew it he'd be talking about his Savior all rolled into one.
When I knew him, he was always a sweet, loving man, with a grin ear to ear. It was an honor to have crossed path's with Harold Scrogin.
Lord, please uplift this family in a time of sorrow and joy.
