Helen Geraldine Hawkins Evans, beloved mother, wife, and sister, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at her residence, in Port Townsend, Washington, while holding the hands of her daughter and son-in-law. Helen was the oldest child, born on January 26, 1929 in Seminole, Oklahoma to her parents, Charles Benjamin and Lucille Octavia Yawn Hawkins. She grew up in Seminole. After graduation from Seminole High School, and attending college in Arizona, she married Onie Oniel Evans, in 1947, after his return from the Navy in WWII.

Helen worked her way through high school as a housekeeper/laundress. During WWII, she worked for Boeing Air Craft, as a librarian for the confidential air craft plans in Oklahoma City, OK.

In 1963, the family moved to Linda, California, where she became a dental assistant and X-ray technician, for Dr. Ronald Gerbing. As her experience grew, she became his Office /Business Manager, where she worked for 23 years. After her retirement in 1983, she and her husband Onie moved to Hawaii to manage one of the large condominiums near Honolulu's beach. They lived there about five years, but returned after the flood, in 1986, to supervise the reconstruction of their home. After the death of her husband, she sold her house on Jay Street and moved to the Buttes Christian Manor in Marysville.

During her retirement years, she became a volunteer for Rideout Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, as an information guide and an attendant at the Pink Trunk. She received the prestigious award for 10,000 hours of service. Helen was a member and deaconess, of the First Christian Church, Marysville, Ca, where she attended for almost twenty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Onie Evans, an infant daughter, Margaret Evans, a son, Randy Niel Evans, a sister Nancy Inez Hawkins, and brothers Ronald, David, and Benjamin Hawkins.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Evans Tyler, her husband James, and Mr. and Mrs. Cace Tyler and their son, Hayden; her son Mark Evans and his wife Mitzi, Mark's daughter Amy Evans Farmer, her husband Brandon and their son, Jason Farmer; and son, Mitzi's son Jacob Evans and his family; and Helen's daughter-in-law, Barbara Couts Evans, and her son Alexandar, his wife, Shenise and their children, Zander and Avery Evans; and her daughter Meredith Evans and her fiancé, James Elkins.



No services will be held in the Marysville - Yuba City area. A Closure Ceremony will be held to honor Hospice and volunteers in Port Townsend, who assisted Helen in her last months. Interment will be held at a future date at the Northern CA Veterans' Cemetery, in Igo, CA with her husband Oniel.
