Helen Manji Obituary

On Friday, July 13, 2018, Helen Manji, loving wife and mother of three children, passed away peacefully at the age of 85.

Helen was born on October 14, 1932, in Honolulu, HI. She received her degrees in education and taught at Tierra Buena School for 37 years. She was married to Billy Manji.

She is survived by one daughter, Kimi; two sons, Cary Jon and Neil; daughter-in-law, Annie; and two grandsons, Sean and Ryan.

Although she was never recognized for her stellar and inventive culinary skills, she owned the largest collection of cook books this side of the Rocky Mountains. She was also allergic to physical activity and early mornings. Always hair conscious, she was known to cancel important doctor appointments in order to make her weekly hair appointments and never had a bad hair day.

Helen was known as a social butterfly. Often, when they ventured out, her daughter would request that she keep her head down and not look around for fear of becoming derailed in conversation on her way to finishing their errands. It rarely happened.

Known as an organized, fair and compassionate teacher, Helen often remembered her past students. When hearing a familiar name, she would comment on remembering that particular student, or that student's parents, or even grandparents of which were also some her students. She not only valued all of the lessons she learned from her students, she always spoke respectfully and admiringly of her professional colleagues, many of which became lifelong friends.

Mom had a fun and loyal group of friends that she loved and appreciated and she enjoyed their late night visits and many laughter-filled field trips.

A public inurnment service will be held on August 25, 2018, at 1:00pm at the Marysville Buddhist Church. Suggested dress is Hawaiian casual. The family requests in lieu of donations, flowers or koden, you listen to your favorite song and share kind memories with each other.
