Jack D. Douglas Obituary

Dr. Jack D. Douglas, DVM, retired Lt. Colonel, USAF, 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 4, 2014.

He was born on September 29, 1926, to Jesse C. and Julia Douglas in Bay City, Oregon. His love of animals led him to study veterinary medicine. He joined the Air Force in 1943, and did medical research from 1945 until 1970, including AFIP, NASA and other institutions. In 1970 he entered private veterinary practice, where he treated everything from dogs and cats, to snakes and lions. He was at the Vacaville Animal Care Center from 1976 until 1986.

Ever optimistic, he had a great sense of humor, and was an engaging storyteller. He was never a stranger to anyone, usually the focus of attention at any event he attended, especially when surrounded by family. His most loved role was as Santa Claus - with his long bushy beard and giving personality, he was a natural.

He was the sole survivor of 5 siblings, 3 brothers, and his beloved sister, who passed away last month. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters and his first wife.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary; 3 daughters, Marcy Douglas Ketcham, Connie Griffin, and Jeannine Ramey; son, Kurt; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service, with full military honors, will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon, CA, on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack's name to the at Donation Processing Center, P.O. Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
