Jagir Singh Obituary

Jagir Singh, 75, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, in his home in Stockton, California. He was born on August 30, 1942, to late parents, Kartar Singh and Chanan Kaur, in Manak Dheri, District Hoshiarpur in Punjab. He was the second of eight siblings and the eldest brother, thus taking on the responsibility of helping to raise his younger siblings at a young age.

He is preceded in death by his son, Surinder Sahota. He is survived by his wife, Kuldip Kaur, his sons Bhupinder Sahota (Narinder Sahota) and Inderjit Sahota (Gurwinder Sahota), and his grandchildren, Navjot, Taranjot, Kuljit, Preet, Jaskaran, and Ishan Sahota. He is remembered fondly by his family as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandpa.

Jagir Singh worked for the Indian Army for 30 years. He retired in 1987, as a Captain. While working in the Army, he earned his Bachelor of Arts and also received a degree in Automobile Engineering. Following his military career, Singh worked for thirteen years as a General Manager at Pepsu Roadways.

In 2001, he moved to California. Jagir Singh became a proud American citizen in 2006. Jagir Singh believed that work is worship, and he always said he would work until the day he dies. He followed this philosophy and worked for over 15 and half years as a dedicated cashier until his death - despite having retired years earlier.

For those fortunate enough to have known Jagir Singh, he will forever be celebrated as a joyful, energetic, and selfless man.

Services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 14165 N. Beckman Road Lodi, CA. Final prayers following the funeral will be held at Dashmesh Darbar Sikh Temple, 12098 West Lane, Lodi, CA.
