James Smith Obituary

James Curtis Smith James Curtis Smith of Yuba City, passed away on November 9, 2010, from natural causes. He was born on November 15, 1915 in Thornburg, Arkansas. He was the eldest of eight children of Hall Porter Smith and Agnes Mildred Smith (Quinn). He was predeceased by the love of his life of 68 years, Ferris Helen Smith in October, 2007. He began his 49 year career in the lumber industry in 1932 at the age of 17 pulling lumber on a dry chain in Pine Valley, OK. He left in 1939 and moved to Klamath Falls, OR as a machine operator. He left in one week and moved to Lakeview, OR to work for Lakeview Molding & Millwork for 18 years. In 1958 he and Ferris moved to Yuba City. He worked for Yuba City Molding & Millwork where he was the day boss until 1963 when the mill burned. He helped build a new mill, Yuba River Molding & Millwork, working as the day boss and eventually becoming a part owner. He retired in 1981 at the age of 76. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Ray of Lebannon, OR, sisters Kathy Chase of San Jose, CA, Nina Fisher of Jacksonville, OR, and Mary Humphrey of Whitesboro, OK. He also leaves four sisters-in- law and many loved nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, Rev. Jim Anderson will officiate.
