James Ray Ford Obituary

James Ray Ford, age 73, passed away at his home in Sutter, CA on November 4, 2017. Jim was born to Vernon and Mildred on December 1, 1943 in Otturnwa, IA. Jim attended Duarte High School in Duarte, CA where he was a star 4-sport athlete. Jim served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Beale Air Force Base. It was in the Air Force, when Jim first came to the Yuba-Sutter Community and attended Yuba College.

In 1972, he met the love of his life, Donna Louise Elliott and they were married on June 16, 1973. Jim retired from PG&E Utilities Co. after 32 years as Materials Supervisor. He was an avid lover of sports, an exceptional player as well as a great coach. Jim had a positive impact on the lives of so many of the youth in our community. He was loved by so many and if you had lived in the Yuba Sutter community over the past four decades you most likely would have connected to him in some way. Jim was a phenomenal fastpitch pitcher who traveled all over the Western United States; he was a member of Colfax Fastpitch Hall of Fame and was inducted with the inaugural class.

Jim is survived by his wife Donna; sister Betty Bell; his children, Brandon and Pattty Ford, Dustin and Kellee Ford, James Glenn Ford, Sandy and Mark Lawrence, Pepe Ford and Angel and Jason and Haley Lewis; grandchildren, Christopher, Zack, Reagan, Chase and James.

Services will be on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the Sutter Community Church in Sutter, CA, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations to be made to Sutter Union High School Softball to construct new batting cage facilities for the youth of Sutter in memory of Jim. Please send contributions directly to Sutter High School, 2665 Acacia Ave., Sutter, CA 95982.
