James Sohrakoff Obituary

James Sohrakoff was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on April 1st, 1924. He passed away at the age of 92 on January 8, 2017. He moved with his family to California when he was 2 years old.

Jim attended Wheatland schools and Yuba College. He was a farmer all his life. Jim farmed a variety of crops and also did construction work. His favorite crop to farm was rice.

He was a member of the Young Farmers Group, Yuba County Waterboard, Bear River Almond Huller, Wheatland Lions, Glouitta Cannery Board, and the Plumas Brophy Fire Department (Fire Chief and volunteer). He served on the Yuba City Grand Jury, Wheatland School Board and the Yuba County Fair Board.

Jim was instrumental in the construction of the Young Farmers pool in Wheatland, building of the dam at Camp Far West Lake and the ground work at the Yuba Sutter Mall.

He was an avid Oakland Raiders and Sacramento Kings fan. You could always find him watching his two favorite teams on TV.

He is survived by his wife Mima of 67 years, sons Jim Jr. of Magalia, Phillip (Melissa) of Wheatland, and grandson Ireland and granddaughter Lillian. He was preceded in death by his son Larry.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Wheatland Community Center, 101 C St. A catered luncheon will be provided after the memorial.
