Jane Evelyn Bolin Obituary

Jane Evelyn Bolin (Betty), a woman who represented to the world how rewarding the profession of nursing can be; for she deeply understood that nursing is basically the concern of man's humanity to his fellow man; entered into rest on September 16, 2014 at the age of 92. Born December 13, 1921 in Arbuckle, California. She was accepted into the Mercy College of Nursing in Sacramento in 1941 and was one of fourteen graduates in 1944.

She spent her entire nursing career of 63 years at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento. Her roles included 17 years as a Nursing Supervisor and ten years as the Director of Nursing for Mercy General Hospital.

She retired briefly in 1986 for one day and returned as an Assistant Director of Volunteers. Through this work experience, she was able to create a picture for the younger generation of what nursing could be. She filled her retirement days not only with her part-time work with volunteers for Mercy; but also served as President for the Mercy Guild as well as a major supporter of the Guilds fundraising events through her artistic and culinary skills.

She additionally was an active member of the Young Ladies Institute in Sacramento.

She is survived by her son, John (Karen) Leonard; daughter, Bernice (Lowell) Sater; two grandchildren, Jon Leonard (Keely), Melanie Syn (Wayne), and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Kathryn Schohr, and her brother, Ralph Schleich.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11am, Mercy Chapel at Mercy Hospital 4001-J Street, Sacramento, California. Interment will be private. Remembrances may be sent to The Sisters of Mercy 535 Sacramento Street, Auburn, CA 95603, or to a .
