Jean Armstrong Durst Obituary

Jean Durst, aged 82, passed away peacefully at home on March 6, 2016.

She was born in Woodland, CA on June 27, 1934 and grew up in the community of Grimes. She was a proud graduate of Katherine Branson's High School in 1952 and the University of California, Berkeley in 1956. Jean married Oscar Durst, Jr. in March of 1957 and they made their home in the beautiful hills of Hungry Hollow. Her favorite pastime was to watch the wildlife through her large window - observing robins, turkeys, and deer in her yard and mountain lions enjoying the shade of a large oak tree. Jean and Oscar hosted many spring picnics in their foothills for friends and families serving their prized leg of lamb and homemade ice cream.

Jean was very proud of her pioneer Colusa County heritage. She was fond of sharing stories as a young lady growing up in a close-knit community with many friends and relatives. She was a dedicated mother and supported her children and all of their education and activities.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar; parents, Elna and Gardner Armstrong; and her daughter, Cindy. She is survived by sisters Elizabeth Robinson and Susan Driver; brother Harold Armstrong (Ellen); sister-in-law, Isabel Story (George); her children, Susan Richter (Mark), Fritz (Ann), and Heidi Aoki (Darrell); and her grandchildren, Elizabeth and Taylor Richter, Garrett, Patrick, Molly and Nikolaus Durst, and Katie Aoki. Aunt Jeanie is also loved by numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of Jean's life on March 12, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Yolo Flyers Club. Remembrances in memory of Jean can be made to the Grimes Civic Association, P.O. Box 202, Grimes, CA 95950 (to benefit the Grimes Scout Cabin).
