Jean G. Knapper Obituary

Jean G. Knapper, 91, of Maxwell and Elk Grove, died peacefully Monday, March 28, 2016 with her daughters by her side. She was happy and active until suffering a cerebral hemorrhage just days before her death.

Mrs. Knapper was born on April 14, 1924, near Wesley, IA to Elmer Kenny and Ruth Mae (Larson) Johnson. She married her sweetheart, Dale Knapper on July 4, 1944. They initially settled in Britt, IA but moved to West Sacramento in 1957 and to Maxwell in 1968.

Jean was a loving wife and mother to five daughters; she was an invaluable asset for the family-run service stations in West Sacramento and Maxwell and Maxwell Auto Parts. She was a proud member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Maxwell. She loved to cook, sew, sing, and paint. Before being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Jean had an incredible memory and could remember dates and details back to the age of two. She was active in the Baptist churches in West Sacramento and Maxwell.

She is survived by her five daughters: Janis (Jim) Miller, Linda (Larry) Gage, Marilyn (Jeff) McAlpin, Sandee (Ken) Firch, Elaine (Randy) Hall, as well as 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; her sister Sharlene Beenken of Mason City, IA; and sisters-in-law Stena Vessels of Williams, CA and Wilhelmine Johnson of Dover, DE, and numerous extended family.

Her husband, Dale, preceded her in death in 2008.

A visitation will be held on April 7, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the McNary-Moore Chapel, 107 5th Street, Colusa. Funeral services will be held on April 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Maxwell Baptist Church, 177 N. California Street, Maxwell, CA. Interment will follow at the Maxwell Cemetery.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to her caregivers Maria, Reva, and Lydia at Laguna Creek Elderly Care. Memorial contributions may be made to Maxwell Baptist Church "In memory of Jean Knapper".
