She taught band and chorus for 12 years with the Pierce Joint Unified School District and received her teaching credential from Chico State University in 1980. Jean gave private piano lessons at home to scores of students for nearly 50 years.

Raymond died in 1980 and in 1986, she married Charles Malcolm. With Malcolm, she traveled the U. S. and Canada and learned how to fish the Sacramento River. Malcolm died in 2008. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Louise (Davis) Struckmeyer, and her brother, Bill.

Jean is survived by her sister, Mary O'Neal; her sons, Christopher and wife Janice, John and wife Charlette, and James and wife Terra.
