Jerald Barker Obituary

Jerald (Jerry) Dean Barker passed away at his home in Lincoln, CA, on September 7, 2018.

Born to Harvey and Virgie Barker in Hardesty, OK, on December 20, 1938, Jerry grew up in Guymon, OK, with one brother, Gene, and three sisters, Beulah, Virgie, and Ann. He graduated from Guymon High School, where he excelled as a basketball player.

Jerry went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a Electronics Mechanic on the nuclear AGM-28 Hound Dog missile. He finished his career in the Air Force as a Recruiter in Oklahoma before transitioning to the Civil Service maintaining B-52s and the SR-71 Blackbird.

While living in Lincoln, NE, Jerry met Sheila Rae Blair, whom he married in December 1959. Together they raised two children, Jerald Eugene and Karen Kay.

His service in the Air Force brought him and his family to many locations, including Lincoln, NE, Chanute AFB, IL, Burns Flat, OK, Aurora, CO, Grand Forks, ND, Marysville, CA, and Stillwater, OK.

He spent his final years of service at Beale Air Force Base while living in Yuba City, CA, where he enjoyed fishing on the Feather River, before moving to Lincoln, CA, in retirement.

He is survived by his three sisters, Beulah Thornton, Virgie Lawson, and Ann Bugner; his two children, Jerald and Karen Barker; five grandchildren, Raymie, Ronald, Tony, and David Barker and Alexander Guzman; three great-grandchildren, Troy, Mateo, and Abigail Barker.

Jerry is preceded in death by Sheila, his wife of 46 years; and his brother, Gene.

A gathering celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at 11 am in Lincoln, California, at the Solarium Room, located at 965 Orchard Creek Lane. For details, email [email protected].
