Jerry Clarence "Poly" Wasilenko Obituary

Jerry was a lifetime Yuba City native, born December 29, 1939. He passed away peacefully October 18, 2017, at The Fountains following a brief illness with his wife Linda by his side.

Jerry was one of the original members of the Fairman Street Gang. He graduated from Yuba City High School where he excelled in football, was all league and co-most valuable player with lifetime friend Ron Simmons. He graduated from Yuba College and was a member of the Championship 1958 Football Team that was inducted into the Yuba College Hall of Fame. He was a past Master Counselor of Liberty Chapter Order of DeMolay.

Jerry graduated from San Jose State, where he met his wife, Linda (Wilfert), and married in October 1972. He worked in the trucking business for his great-uncle, TF Burns, and as a private owner/operator of his own truck.

Jerry enjoyed fun and games especially, cousins Bill and Judie Messick's annual Chester/Lake Almanor 4th of July Bash. Good food and drink, horse shoes, card games, and tall tales ruled the day.

Jerry and Linda volunteered locally for the Special Olympics. After retiring they purchased a motor home and travel extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. They established many card playing, rock hound and kayaking friends along the way.

We know Jerry is at peace, probably in a card game with cronies, listening to Willie sing "On the Road Again".

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Elva Wasilenko. He is survived by his wife Linda Wasilenko; brother, David Wasilenko (Karen), of Yuba City; and many cousins; nieces and nephews.

A reception and celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 1pm at 1863 Chloe Court, Yuba City, CA. Private services were previously held by Ullrey's Memorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
