Joan M. Martin Obituary

Joan M. Martin of Yuba City passed away on July 11, 2016 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Joan, a life-long resident of Sutter County, was born in Yuba City, CA on August 4, 1935 to Alton and Cathilea Stephenson. She was a graduate of Sutter Union High School and attended Yuba College.

She worked as a secretary and librarian before spending over twenty-six years in the Sutter County Clerk-Recorder's office. Nineteen of the twenty-six years were spent as the assistant county clerk. She was a member and past President of the California Superior Court Clerks' Association.

Joan was married to Tom Teesdale from 1957 to 1970 and then was remarried to Jim Martin in 1975.

She is survived by her brother, Gary (Lesley) Stephenson, sons Trent (Brenda) Teesdale, Stephen (Julie) Teesdale, and step-son Jay (Megan) Martin and step-daughter Elizabeth (Byron) Perkey. She is also survived by her grandchildren Tyson and Ryan Teesdale, Lauren Garcia, Sam Teesdale, Kelsey Oseto, Lindsey Martin, Caitlyn and Matthew Perkey, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, Alton and Cathilea, and her brothers, Lamar and Robert Stephenson.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Fountains for the loving care provided to Joan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sutter County Memorial Museum, 1333 Butte House Rd., Yuba City, CA 95993 and/or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM in The Plaza Room at Hillcrest Plaza, 210 Julie Dr., Yuba City, CA.
