Joann Mary (Ettl) Lantsberger Obituary

Joann Mary (Ettl) Lantsberger of Marysville, California, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2016, at the age of 83.

Joann was born in Colusa, California on August 6, 1932 and grew up in Meridian, California on the family ranch. Joann graduated from Sutter Union High School and from there went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Chico in 1954 and continued on to earn her teaching credential in 1955.

It was in 1954 while attending California State University of Chico that Joann met Joseph L. Lantsberger who would later become her husband. The two courted while Joe earned his college degree and Joann was beginning her teaching career at Marysville High School in Marysville, CA. They were engaged in April 1958 and on June 28, 1958, they married at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Colusa, CA. The two were married for more than 57 years until Joann's passing.

Joann went on to teach at Placerville High School in Placerville, CA and returned a year later to Marysville High School in 1957 where she resumed teaching business and typing classes for over 25 years until retiring in 1998. In her free time, Joann enjoyed cooking, reading and taking camping and fishing trips with her husband and family throughout the western United States. Joann was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Catholic Relief Society and a variety of teaching sororities and organizations.

Joann is survived by her husband, Joseph, and their three children and spouses: Theresa Dwinger (Duane) of Sutter, CA, Steven (Georgia) of Morada, CA, and Philip (Cathy) of Elk Grove, CA; two brothers: Daryl and Michael, along with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joann is predeceased in death by her parents Frank P. Ettl and Margaret M. Ettl.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2106 from 2-7 pm at Lipp & Sullivan.

Services, including a rosary will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marysville, CA. Reception will follow immediately at St. Joseph's Hall with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colusa, CA following the reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Catholic Daughters of America. Funeral services are under the direction of Lipp & Sullivan Funeral Directors.
