John Charles Alexander Obituary

John Charles Alexander passed away on Father's Day, June 19, 2016 at his home of 45 years in Yuba City, CA. John was born in Maryville, Missouri on August 10, 1934 to Donald and Ada Alexander.

He graduated from Maryville High School in 1952, attended the Northrop School of Aviation and University of Missouri. John entered the United States Air Force as a cadet and served as an officer in the Strategic Air Command and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in Southeast Asia between 1972 and 1973, in addition to other medals of commendations At the end of his military career, he was instrumental in the success of the SR-71 World Record Speed and Altitude flights.

After retiring from the military, John began a career in the casualty insurance industry and eventually served as chairman of the board for a local title insurance company. John was an active member of the local business community and served on the board of the Walton Fire District, Pathways, Downtown Merchant Association and the Rotary Club. He enjoyed modeling and flying remote control airplanes, reading, traveling, and sailing on the San Francisco Bay.

He is survived by Diane, his wife of 59 years, his brother Ernest B. Alexander, children Amy Virginia Meyer, Richard Bryan Alexander, Elizabeth Monroe McCarthy and John Whitman Alexander, eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Zoe.
