John (Jack) Stokes Obituary

March 14, 1948 - February 16, 2015

Jack was born in Oakland, California to Myra and Fred Stokes. He graduated from college at Chico State University in 1971 and would go on to get his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Education. Jack spent his entire 38-year career in public education, serving in a variety of roles that included coaching, teaching, counseling, and school administration. The last 24 years he spent as principal at Alicia Intermediate School. He was active in numerous community activities including coaching youth sports for his two sons. Following his retirement from the Marysville Joint Unified School District, Jack kept busy traveling with his wife Judy, golfing at Peach Tree Country Club and volunteering at the Discovery Shop. Jack passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 37 years.

Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew him and the many students whose lives he impacted.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Stokes of Yuba City, his two sons; Erik Stokes and Taran Stokes, both of Sacramento, his brother Tim (Jody) Stokes of Eugene, Oregon, sister and brother in-law, Gail and Mick Franssen, nieces; Bailey and Lauren, nephews; Marc, John, and David, as well as numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Myra Stokes and father John Stokes.
