Johnny Ira (John) Siler Obituary

Johnny (John) Ira Siler, 86, of Yuba City, California, passed away, Friday, September 12, 2014, at his home.

John was born October 2, 1927 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Ira and Nannie (Robinson) Siler. His dad was a dairy farmer and John worked on the farm with his three brothers and sister until he graduated from the 8th grade. After graduation, he left home to work in the fields of Oklahoma; Arkansas; Texas; Arizona; and California. Then, after a tour of duty in WWII, in 1947 he made Robbins his home. With farming in his veins, he worked for a few farmers in the Sutter Basin before becoming an independent rice and tomato farming consultant. Over the past years his greatest pleasure was working with Jack, Mike and JD DeWitt in the rice fields. He enjoyed meeting them for breakfast to discuss farming strategies and spending time at the shop. After 72 years of farming he retired earlier this year.

John loved his family and is survived by wife, Margaret and three daughters, Cheryl Scritchfield of San Ramon, CA, Diane Deatherage of Roseville, CA and Sharleen (Sullivan) Smith of Pueblo West, CO; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nephews Lucky Green of Sutter and Happy Green of Colusa; and brother- and sister in-law Mike and Jenny Smith.

John was a great man. His honesty, integrity and love of his family and friends will live on in each that knew him.

John was cremated and his remains will be returned to the earth he loved.
