Joyce Marlene Martell Obituary

Joyce Marlene Martell formerly McCullough passed away January 31, 2015 at Valley West Care Center in Williams, CA.

She was born July 29, 1937 to Ezma "Pat" Schafer in Yuba City, California and went to School in Colusa and graduated from Colusa High School in 1955.

Joyce worked for Davison Drug during high school, Western Auto, Pirelli Cable before becoming the Appointed City Clerk/Finance Director for the City of Colusa in 1973 where she remained to 1989 upon Retirement.

She married Kermit L. McCullough in 1955 - 1982 and they had three daughters Linda Kay Zepeda (Angelo) of Colusa, Ann Potts (William) of Orcas Island, WA and Della Jane McCullough (Chad) Lopez Island, WA. Grandmother to Angel Shatell Potts Rio Rancho, NM, Charles Zepeda San Diego, CA, Sgt. Thomas Zepeda, Camp LeJeune, NC, Samantha Frith, Auburn, WA, Kimberly Zepeda, Sacramento, CA, Teddy M. McCullough, Washington, DC; 3 adopted grandchildren Dustin Potts, Asa Potts and Kaycee Kanipe; 4 great grandchildren Xavier and Danica Perez, NM, Cassia and Rutledge Frith, WA. Survived by Mother Ezma "Pat" Schafer; brother Jerry Randolph (Linda) and in-sister-law Laura Moles, numerous nieces and nephews and longtime best friend Evalena Cox-Hise.

Upon retirement Joyce spent the next 10 years traveling to multiple states visiting friends and family.

Survived by husband Phil Martell of Colusa and his daughter Triphena Martell of Williams.

Preceded in death by husband Kermit L. McCullough and sister Bobbie Birge.

During high school Joyce participated in many activities. Her favorites were high school chorus and drum majorette. Organizations she belonged to after high school were Colusa Skier's Club, Colusa Jr. Women's Club, volunteered for Colusa Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, A member of VERITAS Chapter No. 84 Eastern Star, served as a Rainbow Mother of Friendship Assembly #144, President and Founding Member of Colusa Soroptimist Club, President of California City Clerk's Assoc., Board member California State Business Women's Association, Board member and participant of Colusa Stagehands, Member of Colusa Golf and Country Club, Board member of Colusa Cemetery District and a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Chorus. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed participating in many rec. sports including golf, softball, and skiing.

During her last 13 years of life, Joyce was the love of Phil's life. They shared and made many happy memories together traveling all over the world including many Cruises to Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas and Europe. They enjoyed many road trips all over the United States and spending time with each other's grandchildren. Phil was there to share in Joyce's last moments of her life and she will forever be in his heart.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 6th from 5:00-8:00 pm at McNary - Moore Chapel 107 5th Street, Colusa.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, February 7th at The First Presbyterian Church, 4th and Jay Street, Colusa.
