Kanaya Lal Bhatia Obituary

Kanaya Lal Bhatia, beloved husband and father, passed away in his sleep on December 27, 2016 at the age of 81. He was born on April 3, 1935 in Karachi in then Undivided India under British control.

Kanaya left India to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in the mid-to-late 1950's. He came to Marysville in the early 1960's where he started to work as a Civil Engineer for Caltrans. Kanaya went briefly to Mumbai in 1964 to marry his wife Yash Jolly and they settled in Marysville. He worked as a respected Civil Engineer for Caltrans until his retirement in the early 1990's. In 1997, Kanaya and Yash moved to Yuba City. Over the years, he built a strong foundation for his family and forge a close community of friends. In the Mid-2000's, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. By 2012, the disease progressed to the point that Kanaya had to relocate to a skilled nursing facility. He spent his remaining years at Eskaton Care Center Manzanita in Carmichael, CA.

Kanaya always made it a point to spend time with his family. He is survived by his wife Yash Bhatia, two sons Milan Bhatia and Nick Bhatia. He is also survived by his brother Dr. Kishan Bhatia.

Services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of the Twin Cities, Yuba City. Afterwards a prayer service will be held at Tierra Buena Sikh Temple.
