Kenneth Andrew Keller Jr. Obituary
Kenneth Andrew Keller, Jr.
September 30,1924 - August 25,2014

After battling with an indomitable spirit several serious diseases, Kenneth Andrew Keller Jr. passed away, fittingly with his wife of 67 years, Joyce, by his side.

Ken was born in San Francisco to Kenneth Andrew Keller (deceased 1950) and Rose Poundstone Keller Hutton (deceased 1976). Ken graduated from Colusa High School in 1942. He went on to the University of California at Berkeley. His college years were interrupted by being called to serve in the Army-Air Force Corp in 1943.

He was  in the Air Transport Command 1503rd  Foreign Transport and flew overseas to Australia and many locations in the South Pacific including Hawaii, Fuji, Guam, Okinawa, Kyoto and Manila. He returned from active service to Cal-Berkeley in 1946.

Ken and Joyce Braly were married in 1947 in Colusa, and Ken began a lifelong career in farming, beginning in Princeton and also  in Grimes where he actively farmed for 67 years.

Ken and Joyce have two children, Michael and Candyce. Ken was very proud of his  children and  grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher (Carly), Katy and Deke, and that they each have attained success in their chosen pursuits of business, education, and agriculture.

Ken farmed rice and other commodities over six decades and also served the agricultural community in many ways - serving on the Boards of The Rice Growers Association and Cal Ammonia, where he served as Chairman for two years. He was also a member of the Agriculture Council, Council of California Growers, Rice Research Board, Colusa County Agricultural Stabilization Committee (ASCS) and the Colusa Draft Board.

With his love of flying, Ken was a pilot for 55 years and enjoyed checking the progress of his crops from above, as well as flying to many destinations across the country, including his beloved Mendocino coast. He was also a member of the Colusa County Airport Committee.

Ken enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Ken enjoyed the camaraderie of being a member of the Colusa Shooting Club for 63 years. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips all over the Western States and in Canada with many of his dear friends. He was a supporter of the California Waterfowl Association, Ducks Unlimited and an endowment member of the NRA.

Ken had a great love of our country, his wife Joyce, his family and farming - this year's crop will be his 67th. He was also proud that the fifth generation is carrying on the farming tradition.

The family would like to thank the doctors, medical staff and caregivers who provided Ken and the family with much care and comfort over the last few months.

The family would also like to thank their friends and the community for the outpouring of support. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sutter North Hospice or a  . A private family service will be held.

Ken Keller left the land better than he found it.
