Age 51, passed away at his home on July 7, 2014 in Roseville, CA.

Jim went to school in Yuba City and after graduation from High School he went to Sac State where he studied to become a paramedic. Jim worked for Bi-County Ambulance for 8 years while working for Oswald/Tudor Fire Department as a volunteer.

He later started working for Yuba County Sheriff's Department where he attended the Police Academy to become a Police Officer. He worked for 10 years at Yuba County Sheriff's Department before transferring to work with the Yuba City Police Department.

While with the Yuba City Police Department, Jim received a Medal of Valor, which was the first to be awarded in a 40 year history of the Yuba City Police Department. Jim transferred to Roseville Police Department in 2004.

He loved the Roseville area so much that he had a home built there. In 2007 Jim went to Huntsville, Alabama to Homeland Security School. Jim was then placed with the Roseville Police Department's EOD Bomb Squad and also the Swat Team.

Jim retired from the Roseville Police Department in 2011 and opened his own business, Placer Appliance in Roseville. He loved the appliance business as he grew up with it all of his young life with his parents having Sutter Appliance.

His family and friends knew him as warm hearted, kind spirited and always willing to lend a hand to anyone that needed it. Jim had a warm smile, a kind word and a joke to always keep you laughing. He was known as a great teacher and a fantastic co-worker.

Jim's humor was intoxicating and infectious. His happy go lucky attitude made people want to be around with him.

His passions included riding motorcycles, King's Basketball games but most of all spending time with his family and friends.

He was knowledgeable in all kinds of music. His love of music ranged from The Big Bands, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles and of course Buddy Guy.

Jim loved to dress up like Santa and visit with his friend's children on Christmas Day.

Jim's smile, his laugh and the light that he brought to all that he touched will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his parents, Ken and Doris Marler of Yuba City and brother, Robert Lee and Ulla Marler of Pertrolia.
