Laura Belle (Williams) Stites Obituary

December 16, 1932 - August 16, 2017

Laura Belle Stites, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on August 16, 2017. She and her twin sister, Lucile, were born December 16, 1932, in Willows, CA.

Her family lived in Codora, CA, until moving to Lafayette, TN, at the age of 4, where they lived for 7 years. They moved back to Codora where she attended grammar school and graduated from Princeton High School.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Stites on August 4, 1951, and lived in Colusa where she gave birth to a son, Steve, in August of 1952, and a daughter, Linda, in March of 1955.

They later moved to Sites, and then to Maxwell in 1968 where she worked at Maxwell Christian Academy and was a member of the Maxwell Baptist Church. For the past 16 years, she regularly attended the Grace Baptist Church in Yuba City.

Laura is survived by her twin sister and best friend, Lucile; and her brother-in-law, Lowell Berlin of Colusa; brother, Paul (Doris) Williams of Auburn; long-time friend, David Hodges of Colusa, and long-time friend Vicky Berlin of Maxwell. She is also survived by her son Steve Stites of Magalia, daughter Linda (Dean) Berry of Colusa, grandchildren Shelli Berry of Colusa, Nicole (Koos) Botha of Pinole, Trista (Carl) Pettigrew of Nelson, Travis Stites of Chico, Will (Lizzie) Berry of Colusa; great-grandchildren Anthony, Alonzo, Ambria, Marlie, Trever, Ashlyn, Kinslie, and Mayah and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Louise Williams, husband Charles Stites, and sister Peg Olvera.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017, from 5-8 pm at McNary-Moore Chapel. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Colusa Presbyterian Church, followed by a graveside service at Colusa Cemetery. A reception will be held at Laura's home following the services.
