LaVerne Grell Obituary

Dear Family and Friends, God blessed me with more than 100 years of life. I want to thank each and every one of you for your gift of love and friendship.

I have cherished each and every relationship. As you know, music has been my life. At my 100th birthday "Celebration of Life", my desire was to entertain the Yuba Sutter Oratorio Orchestra and Choir of whom I have been a part for the past 65 years. That desire was fulfilled when the choir and orchestra performed some of my favorite music. Thank you for sharing your music and talent with our community for the last 75 years. I was so honored at the last performance of the Messiah when the YSOS board of directors voted me as President Emeritus.

In addition to the music in my life, I have been a part of many church families as organist, choir director, pianist, and accompanist. I have had a wonderful relationship with my PEO sisters and my Seminar friends. For the last 15 years, I have enjoyed the fellowship of my sisters and brothers in Christ at the Hope Point Nazarene Church, and have especially enjoyed my fellowship with the Prime Timers under the care of Pastor Nate Gossett.

All that I can say is that God's care and guidance are great, unfailing, and living proof of Psalm 16:11, which has been the theme of my life. "Thou wilt show me the path of life. In Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore." Love, LaVerne.

LaVerne Esther Grell was born on November 15, 1914, at Enloe Hospital in Chico, California. She passed away at home, after a brief illness, on July 16, 2015.

She is survived by her two daughters, Pat McDaniels and Merrylee Bonslett, and two grandsons, Dennis (Patsy) Nelson of Yuba City, and David Smith of North Carolina. A private family graveside service in Chico is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in LaVerne's honor to the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society or to the Sutter North Hospice.
