Leo Dale Hood Obituary

Leo Dale Hood, age 78 of Westlake, Oregon passed away June 3, 2015 in Florence, Oregon. He was born on January 14, 1937 in Rocky Ford, Colorado has family then moved to Modesto, CA then to Gridley, CA. Dale graduated from Gridley High School. He attended Yuba College and LaVerne College. He played in a band on the local radio station and was active in the FFA and youth group at Life Oak Church of the brethren.

Dale worked many years in construction building many of the southern California freeway systems as a truck driver. He then went on to work at the University of Irvine school of medicine in the research and development labs where he was involved in the design and building of the knee replacement and incubators for premature babies as well as the heart probe.

He moved back to Northern California where he went to work for Berlin Manufacturing in Woodland, CA from 1976 to 1977, specializing in converting tomato harvesters into electric ones. From there on to the University of Davis at Crocker nuclear lab shop from 1977 to 1984 and also was a machine shop supervision in the physcial plant from 1987-1994 where he retired.

After retirement he went to work for Hillaby's International in Woodland, CA as a shop foreman. Then in 1996 he moved to Westlake, OR for his final retirement. Dale was very active in the First Baptist Church and helped construct the new church.

Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping he was also a volunteer for the Red Cross.

He is survived by his wife Nancy of Florence and his daughters Cindy Hood and Caryn Hood of Yuba City, CA and Cherie Hood of Knights Landing, CA and his only grandchild Samantha Hood Odell of Knights Landing, CA, his brother Darrell and wife Jan Hood of Albany and a brother in law Brian Carroll.

A service will be held on June 26th at 12 noon at the Gridley Biggs Cemetery in Gridley CA on Hwy 99 on the north end of Gridley with a reception to follow.

Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
