Leonard Ivan (Rusty) Harper Obituary

Leonard (Rusty) Ivan Harper, known to his granddaughters as Papa, passed away peacefully, at the age of 75, on December 20, 2014, with family by his side.

Rusty was born on October 14, 1939 in Rattan, Oklahoma and had lived in Olivehurst, CA since childhood.

Rusty had worked in the local lumber mills since he was a young man and completed his career at Newton's Saw Shop. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors and having animals of all kinds, but especially loved caring for and riding horses. Rusty was also well known to be a daily fixture at Duke's Diner in Olivehurst, rarely missing an occasion to go.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, C.R., Jody and Roy; a sister, Fayerene; and his father and mother, Jesse and Ethel.

He is survived by two sisters, Yvonne Mazzie and Almeda Abell of Flemington, WV; as well as four children; Ben Harper (Barbara) of Yuba City, CA, Brady Harper of Olivehurst, CA, Anna (Polly) Dreyfuss (Terry) of Peeples Valley, AZ, Jessie Morrell (Jeremiah) of Marysville, CA; along with 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will take place at Sierra View Cemetery in Olivehurst, CA on Friday, December 26, 2014, at 11:00 a.m.

Arrangement is under the direction of Lakeside Colonial Chapel.
