Lewis Tarr Obituary

Lewis Tarr, of Olivehurst, California, died at home on May 17, 2014, after a short illness. He was 87. He was born in St. Michaels, Maryland. He was the son of the late George M. Tarr Jr. and Mabel M. Jones Tarr.

Shortly after graduating from St. Michaels High School, Class of 1944, he served a stint in the U. S. Navy during World War II before enlisting in the U. S. Air Force. He retired, with distinction, as a Chief Master Sergeant at Beale Air Force Base in 1966. He remained at Beale as a Civil Servant until his retirement in 1982. He was a 50 year Mason, most recently with Corinthian Lodge #9 in Marysville. He was a Ben Ali Shriner and served over 10 years as a STARS volunteer with the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wynne, daughters Lynda Lara and Debra Tarr, sons Lewis Tarr Jr. and David (Melvina) Tarr, and grandchildren David Tarr II, Veronica Lara, Miles Tarr-Raines, Zoe Tarr-Raines, Katlyn Tarr, and Aidan Tarr-Raines. Also surviving are brothers Walter "Buster" Tarr and John "Billy" Tarr, and sister Louis Visgaitis. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Virginia Lowry and Mildred Whiteside, and brother George R. Tarr.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service on Friday, May 23, 2014, at 10 am, at the First United Methodist Church at 730 D Street in Marysville. Burial with military honors will follow at Sierra View Memorial Park in Olivehurst. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital in his memory.
