Lloyd L. Decker Obituary

Lloyd L. Decker, age 92, died December 16, 2013 at Golden Acres Home Care, Yuba City, CA, after a short illness. Mr. Decker is survived by his wife Auburn, 3 children: Dodie Lutes-Burnett, Mark Decker and Ed Decker, along with their spouses: Daryl Burnett, Peggy Decker and Tammy Decker. Lloyd also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Lloyd first met his wife Auburn when he saw her cleaning under a bed in the room he was renting at the boarding house her mother owned in Grass Valley, CA. She had curlers in her hair and was wearing an old apron. He said, he knew she was the one. They were married a year later on July 3, 1942. They spent almost 72 wonderful years together.

Shortly after marrying Auburn, Lloyd enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served on the USS Ancon, Communications and Command ship. The USS Ancon was involved in 5 invasions during WWII. Four in Europe including D Day Omaha Beach, Normandy and one invasion for the Pacific Service. Lloyd also witnessed the surrender of Japan, Tokyo Bay, September 2, 1945 which ended WWII. When Lloyd returned home from the war he met his first born child Dodie who was 2 years old.

After the war ended, Lloyd continued his 40 year career working for Bank of America where he retired at age 62 as Vice President and northern California area director and manager for the local Yuba City branch.

Lloyd was also involved with several community organizations, including Rotary Club, Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver Award, Schriener's, former president at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club, and he also was a Free Mason.

Lloyd spent his 30 years of retirement golfing, fishing, hunting and enjoying his wonderful wife, family and friends. He was a true gentleman with honor, integrity and humility. He will be truly missed by all those who knew him.

Services will be held at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11am. 1390 Franklin Road, Yuba City, CA 95993.
