Lynn Cecil Pursell Jr. Obituary

Born on December 13, 1926 in Marysville, CA, to Lynn Pursell Sr. ("Doc") and Grace Arnoldy Pursell. Died October 26, 2015 in Citrus Heights, CA, at the age of 88.

Lynn ("Bud") attended Notre Dame Catholic School and Marysville High School and joined the Navy at 17 right out of high school. In the Navy, he trained as a tail gunner on TBM airplanes. WWII ended before he was deployed and he went on to college where he earned a degree in aeronautical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1950. After several short term jobs, Lynn began working at McClellan AFB designing and overseeing modifications and improvements to military aircraft. He retired in 1985 after 35 years at McClellan AFB where he made many lifelong friends.

In 1948, he met Betty Kimerer from Yuba City and fell in love. They married in 1950 and raised seven children; Leslie, Hattie Guy, Jon, Gary, Susan Lowe, Jim and Bill. Lynn and Betty had sons/daughters-in-law they loved as their own; Bruce, Ross, Bonnie, Steve, Gina and Kathy. They also have ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They were married 58 years and felt very fortunate to have such a large, successful and fun-loving family - not taking the credit themselves but credit they richly deserved.

Lynn was predeceased by his son Jon in 1968, by Betty in 2009, by his brother Paul, and by his sister Virgina Jones. He is survived by his sister Janet (Al) Legault of Pleasant Hill, CA.

Lynn was a very active man who fished, golfed, hunted and repaired anything especially cars. Since he was hard-working and always overcoming physical hardships, he was often described as "tough" which made him an excellent role model for many of us. He never gave up!

Lynn, most of all, loved a good party with family and friends and was always the last one on the dance floor! He lived by simples rules: work hard, play hard, love your family and hold your friends close. Now, it is his time to rest in peace.

Memorial services to be held at St. John the Baptist Historic Catholic Church, 510 Sibley St., Folsom, CA, on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 11:00 AM with a luncheon following at his home.

Donations may be made to the National Shingles Foundation (vzvfoundation.org).
