Mae K. Johnson Obituary

Mae K. Johnson, 90, previously of Yuba City, passed away of age-related causes in Eugene, Oregon on June 9, 2014. Mae was born on the prairies of central Canada on May 8, 1924 to Ernest and Riola Morine.

She attended a one- room school through grade 8 and then studied at home by correspondence courses the first two years of high school before completing her high school studies at Estevan Collegiate Institute in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada.

In 1946, Mae came to Kingsburg, California to help care for an aunt. She later received her permanent resident status and was employed by the Bank of America until 1950. She met the love of her life, Fancher Johnson, in 1947, and they were married in 1948. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together before Fancher passed away in 2002.

Mae worked for more than 40 years as an Avon sales representative, first in Kingsburg and later in Yuba City, California. She enjoyed entertaining, gardening, sharing flowers and traveling with family and friends. She was an active member of Yuba City First United Methodist Church and was a member of Kingsburg Community Church at the time of her death. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and she was active in Busin' Cousins Square Dance Club and Yuba City Health and Racquet Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Susie Hoberg (Carl) of Kingsburg, California; a son, Norman Johnson (Julie) of Eugene, Oregon; two sisters, Helen Nichley of Stockton and Arlene Abbott of Estevan, Saskatchewan; and 5 grandchildren, Ryan Pickrell, Andrew Pickrell, Kerry Pickrell, Alex Johnson and Kirsten Johnson.

A graveside service will be held at 9:00 A.M. on July 3, 2014 at the Kingsburg Cemetery with a reception to follow at Kingsburg Community Church.
