Manuel M. Castro Obituary

Manuel M. Castro "Manny", 77, passed away on January 19, 2018, at his home. Manny was born on August 16, 1940, in San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; Melchor and Margaret Castro, and his sister, Patsy Ludwig.

Before his retirement, Manny worked all over the bay area as a cement mason. He served on the board of Local 300 in Oakland for several years. He recently received his Gold Card from the union for being a mason for 50 years.

After moving to Yuba City 14 years ago, Manny involved himself in charitable work volunteering for Hands of Hope and REST as a driver. He is a member of SIRS and was active with the fishing club the "Slow Trollers", serving as Treasurer and glorified cook for their many tournaments and annual picnics until his stroke in 2016.

Manny is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lourdes, sons; Manuel Jr., Timothy, Michael, Frank Taeu (Carrie), and Jonathan Taeu (Sherry), daughter, Melanie Leyva (Carlos), 11 granchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Viewing will be on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, 5pm - 8pm, at Holycross Memorial on Bridge Street. Rosary and mass will be on Thursday, January 25, 2018, 10:00 am at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Burial will be on Saturday, January 27th, 2018, 10:00 am at Chapel of the Chimes in Hayward, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Hands of Hope or REST at 909 Spiva Avenue in Manny's memory.
