Margaret Mary Breen Summy Morgan Obituary

Our mother left us on January 13, 2015 and is now at peace. Margaret was born April 30, 1923 in Hastings, Nebraska, to Robert Arthur Breen and Lulu Theresa (Lou) Maher Breen. Her childhood was spent primarily in Beresford and Sioux Falls, SD, with younger sister, Mary Lee, and her cousin James, who was raised by Margaret's parents. After graduating from Beresford High School in 1941, Margaret attended nursing college in Sioux City, Iowa, until she married Dwight Davis (Dave) Summy, December 12, 1944.

Four children were born in four different cities from Georgia to California, until the family settled in Sioux Falls, SD, where a fifth was born. Mom was active in the Cathedral Club, a women's group affiliated with the Cathedral Catholic Church, and had many close friends. As a full-time homemaker, our mother gave us loving, happy childhoods and shared her talents for sewing, cooking, knitting, singing, dancing, and much more.

Five children and 20 years later, she returned to nursing school, and earned her diploma as a registered nurse at Presentation Nursing School at McKennan Hospital, now Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

In 1967, the family moved to Chico, CA. Mom worked at Chico Community Memorial Hospital and served as Director of Nurses in the early 1970s and as a personal care nurse.

Mom was an avid golfer as a member of the Bidwell Park Women's Club and counted many of the members as close friends. Mom moved to Yuba City in 2007.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, "Dave" Summy, Sr. in 1976, and by her later husband of 25 years, Frank Morgan of Chico, in 2003.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Lee Garcia (George) of Santa Ana; five children, Dave Summy (Nancy) of Yuba City, Dana Mefford (Jeff) of Windsor, Terry Reddin of Redding, Chris Gullick (Michael) of Chico, and Tony Summy (Peggy) of Simi Valley. She has 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grand children.

Funeral services are under the direction of Chapel of the Twin Cities. Funeral mass 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2015, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, followed by a reception in parish hall.
