Mariana Osuna Hanifan Obituary

Mariana Osuna Hanifan, 82, of St. Louis, MO, passed away July 17, 2015 in the presence of her daughter and husband after a wonderful evening attending a long awaited Osuna family gathering held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mariana was born in Marysville, CA February 10, 1933, oldest of two children of Pedro and Grace (Barnes) Osuna

She attended the American School in Quito, Ecuador then graduated from Marysville Union High School in 1950. She continued her education attending the University of New Mexico, University of California Berkeley and graduated from Stanford University completing a degree in Nursing in 1957. She earned a post graduate Master's Degree in Psychiatric Nursing from University of Utah in 1968. Professionally she practiced and taught nursing for 22 years ending her career as the Director of Nursing at Belleville Area College, Belleville, IL retiring in 1980.

She was a lifelong bridge player earning the accomplished Life Masters Certification. She was a talented poet & artist, painting with watercolors and oils. She lived an exceptionally full life enjoying time with family and friends traveling the world and crossing the country on her annual road trip to her cherished family cabin in Lake Tahoe. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years Jim Hanifan; her two children: Kathleen (William) Hinder and son James Peter Hanifan; grandson Austin Hanifan Hinder; sister Rita Osuna (Stewart) Jacoby; nieces Jennifer (Kevin) Tucker, Katie Hopkins and son Sam Jewel; nephew Christopher (Brittany) and daughters Olive and Poppy Jacoby; cousins Serrita (Duncan) Coleman, Kimberly (Gary) Rogers, Quito, Carlos, Silvia, Tomas, Luis and the many other Osuna cousins that she was so blessed to see before she passed.

The funeral mass will be held at Saint Richard's Catholic Church, 11223 Schuetz Rd., St. Louis, MO 63146 on July 31, 2015 at 1:30 pm. A celebration of life gathering will follow the church services from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Brookdale, One New Ballas Place, Creve Coeur, MO 63146. Everyone is invited to attend one or both events.
