Marlene Rose Williams Obituary

On Friday, February 24, 2017, Marlene Rose Williams, 82, entered into eternal peace in Paradise, CA, after her struggle with dementia.

Marlene was born in San Louis Obispo, CA, to the late Roy and Emily Cardoza. As a young girl, her family moved to Orland, CA, where Marlene was raised an only child, on the family dairy farm. Marlene met and married the late James R. Hughes. From this union, she was blessed with her two beloved children, Lynda and Richard Hughes.

After working for an insurance company, a photo shop, a Doctor and an antique dealer, Marlene became a retired, full time homemaker. For years, Marlene took great pride in maintaining the 5 acres she owned in Magalia, CA, with her second husband, the late James "Jimmy" Williams. You couldn't let the small stature of this Portuguese firecracker fool you. Marlene was so independent and strong, that she shoveled snow and cleared brush into the last of her years, in order to maintain the beauty of her property. She always worked hard and taught her grandchildren the value of hard work.

Marlene loved her cat, Pepper. She loved to gamble, crochet, read, visit with family, telephone friends and she loved to bake. Her talent in the kitchen was endless. Marlene baked and decorated birthday cakes for all of her grandchildren; she even made her daughter's and two of her granddaughters' wedding cakes. Marlene made a dessert she called "Strawberry Jazz," a family favorite. She would give out the recipe, minus a secret ingredient we all joked, because when made by anyone else, it was never as good. Truth be told, it will forever be missing the secret ingredient, "Grams love."

Marlene is survived by her children, Lynda J. (David) Kimerer and Richard A. (Carol) Hughes. She is also survived by her Grandchildren, Peter Ticknor Jr., Christina (James W.) Hoopes, Steffanie Harp, "Jake" Richard J. Hughes and Erica L. Hughes. Additionally, she is survived by her Great Grandchildren, Raymond (Dionna) L., Patrick, David, Christian, Kyle, Morgan, Rylee, Jocelyn, Korbin and her three Great-Great Grandchildren, Aaliyah, Amiyah and Avianna.

"Truth be told, being a Grandma is as close as we ever get to perfection" Author Unknown.

At the request of family, a private celebration of life will be held in honor of Marlene Rose Williams.

"The rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart" Author Unknown.
