In 1953, he finished his tour of duty. On April 22, 1954, he met his first wife while in California. They moved back to Ohio in 1954 and sometime then he, his wife and 3 children moved back to California, where he went to work for Sutter Welding known as Sweco.

In 1964, he met his second wife, Karyl "Kay" Myers, it was love at first sight. They got married on November 21, 1964. Marvin worked for Sweco for 27 years and was married to Karyl for 50 years.
