Mary Dobbins Wells Obituary

Mary Dobbins Wells was called to the Lord early Monday, May 16, 2016.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, and Nana who told it like it was; you didn't want to hear her answer or opinion that was too bad - she would tell you anyway. She was born in Oroville, CA and went to Bird Street School and Oroville High School. She worked as a dance teacher for Etchart Dance School, as a waitress at Miners Cafe in Oroville and Sambo's in Yuba City. She also worked as a supervisor at Beale AFB Dining Hall and she was an Avon representative for 35 years.

As an Air Force wife, she served with Donald at Castle AFB in CA, McConnel AFB in KS, and Beale AFB in CA. She enjoyed camping, fishing on Lake Oroville, ceramics, and being around her grandchildren. Her favorite place to visit was Crescent City. She enjoyed canning fresh tuna and picking blackberries and crabbing off the dock. She also enjoyed Fort Bragg and loved to walk on the beach looking for sand dollars.

She was a great cook who loved trying new recipes that she saw on facebook, emails, or in somebody's book. You never knew what was for dinner unless you told her you were hungry for a certain thing, but her meals were always excellent and, according to her, good for you.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald Wells; daughter Kelly Etchart; son Gilbert Wells; sister Pat Hutchison; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; cousin Sandy Stout; Janet Whitlow, her best friend for 42 years; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Reed, her father Henry Dobbins, and sister, Francis Jensen.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Mary on June 9, 2016 at the Marysville First United Methodist Church at 730 D Street in Marysville from 1pm-4pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude's.
