Marzella Drechsel Obituary

Marzella Drechsel, 94, a resident of Yuba City, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017.

Marzie was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 27, 1923. She attended Handley Elementary and High School.

Shortly after graduating from high school Marzie worked in Dallas mending hosiery. After that she got a job with Consolidated Aircraft working as a riveter on aircraft being built for use during WW II. In 1943, she moved to Los Angeles where she worked for Consolidated Steel inspecting turret guns before they were mounted on military ships.

She spent time dealing cards in Nevada and tending bar in Montana before marrying William "Bill" Drechsel and returning to Los Angeles. The family moved to Oroville in 1955, and Marzie worked many years as a bookkeeper for the Oroville Mercury Register newspaper. Marzie and Bill both retired and lived in Yuba City for several years before moving to Whidbey Island, Washington. Marzie lived there for 14 years before moving back to Yuba City in 1999.

In her later years Marzie loved to play bingo, cards, and dominoes with her many friends at Sutter Estates. She also loved playing slot machines at the casino and when she was at home she always had a jigsaw puzzle on her table.
Marzie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lillie Works; husband, Bill Drechsel; sisters, Pauline Kahm and Dale Douglas.

She is survived by her brother, Billy Joe Works; her daughters, Tanna Thomas and Lillie Landry (Larry); her son, Quinn Drechsel (Loretta); grandchildren, Brian Taylor (Bryanne), Cory DuPuy, and Krista Drechsel; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 3:00pm, at the Yuba City Senior Center, 777 Ainsley Avenue, Yuba City.
