Myron Ray Dodd Obituary

Lt. Col. Myron Ray Dodd, age 94, of Marysville, CA, passed away December 9, 2016 in the comfort of his own home. Born January 22, 1922 to Jessie and Zella Dodd in Maramec, OK.

He graduated from Montebellow High School in Los Angeles and attended Pasadena Junior College. He met Gladys in high school and the rest is history.

With the passion to fly, Myron joined the Army Air Corp. in 1944 and became the Pilot in Command of the B24 Liberator with nose art, "The Fast Number", flying in numerous WWII missions. Being shot down over Germany and a POW, the war was over and he was released.

He later attended Chico State and obtained a Master Degree, teaching at Gray Avenue School since 1960. All can remember Mr. Dodd and his stories of flying and history. He retired from teaching in the early 1980's. After retiring, Myron and Gladys left no stone unturned as far as traveling.

In 2012, Myron was honored by being inducted into The Commemorative Air Force Hall of Fame Museum, Midland, TX, which is now in Dallas, TX. A placard is displayed with pictures and history of his missions. Still to the day he lived, he enjoyed flying his 1946 Ercoupe 415C with his good friend Buzz and all of his fly-in buddies.

Myron is survived by the love of his life, Gladys Dodd (Holbrook) of 72 years; his sons, Dennis Dodd of Tulsa, OK and Dale (Lorrie) Dodd of South Lake Tahoe, CA; daughter Deanna Darrough of Yuba City, CA; grandchildren, Jeremy (Shannon) of Moore, OK, Jennifer (Eric) Scott of Tulsa, OK, Tarra Darrough of Fair Oaks, CA, Abbie (Jason) Ruiz of Marysville, CA and 5 great grandchildren, Destiny, Skylar, Ethen, Noah and Salem.

He is preceded in death by his son Douglas Dodd.

Full Military Honors will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, January 6, 2017, at 11:00 am. 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA
