Nancy Dunston Wheatley Obituary

Nancy (Kitten) Dunston Wheatley of Marysville, California, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Nancy was born in Gulfport, Mississippi. The third daughter of three girls to the marriage union of Raleigh D. Dunston and Murry Monroe Dunston. Murry Monroe later married George Cade who adored and loved these girls and was an intricate part of raising them.

Nancy attended public schools in Gulfport and graduated high school from 33rd Avenue High School in Gulfport, Mississippi. After graduation, Nancy began working for the JCPenney Company as a mannequin dresser in window displays.

Howard Bob Wheatley served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Oklahoma; Okinawa; Korea and Missouri prior to joining the U.S. Air Force in which he was then stationed at Kessler Air Force Base where he met Nancy Dunston. Airman Howard Bob Wheatley and Nancy Dunston were married on March 23, 1957 at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport, Mississippi by the late Rev. Famous McHaney.

The couple soon embarked as husband and wife as a military family and through this union they were blessed with their son Rodney Howard and daughter Robyn Louise Wheatley. They traveled the world extensively being stationed at Nellis AFB, Nevada; Murphy Dome, Alaska; Scott AFB, Illinois; Udorn, Thailand; Clark AFB, Philippines; Barksdale AFB, Louisiana; Bangkok, Thailand and Beale AFB, California. Nancy and Howard retired from Beale AFB and settled in Marysville, California.

Nancy continued her employment with JCPenney whenever they were stationed stateside working in various departments and finally retiring after 35 years with the company and receiving the "Golden Hand Shake" upon her retirement from the Yuba City JCPenney store in 2003.

Nancy was blessed with a beautiful voice and loved singing in vocal competitions and various choirs throughout her life. Her voice was one that touched everyone that heard her exceptional voice range in notes very few people could reach. Nancy was a member of the Bethel A.M.E. Church choir. She also served as a Steward and Class Leader.

Nancy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years of marriage, Howard Bob Wheatley of Marysville, California; son Rodney Howard Wheatley of Vallejo, California; daughter Robyn Louise Wheatley-Parks of Charleston, South Carolina; granddaughters Caprice and Dejah Parks of South Carolina; sister Ann Barnes of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; nieces Kimberly Hayman of Little Rock, Arkansas; Stephanie Barnes of Memphis, Tennessee; nephew and niece, Garfield and Danielle Hillery of Chicago, Illinois and a host of relatives and many friends she leaves to celebrate her life.

Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 11:00 am at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Marysville, CA. Inurnment will be private. Arrangements under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel.
