Naranjan Singh Atwal Obituary

Naranjan Singh Atwal, a long-time resident of Yuba City, CA, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of September 5, 2016, at the age of 96.

He was born on July 12, 1920, in Punjab, India where he worked for the Punjab government. In 1958, he immigrated to the United States and lived in Imperial County where he formed a passion for farming and served as president of the Sikh Temple in El Centro, CA for 17 years. He moved to Yuba City, where he was an active member of the Sikh Temple Tierra Buena and Guru Nanak Sikh Temple on Bogue Road. He was a well-respected member of the Sikh community.

He had a deep faith in God, loved his family, and devoted his life to the selfless service of others. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and strong work ethic. Our 'Darji' will always be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gurbachan Kaur. He is survived by his son, Raghbir Singh Atwal and daughter-in-law Bimaljit Kaur Atwal; daughter Bhagwant Kaur Hothi and son-in-law Harkirat Singh Hothi; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St. Yuba City, CA on Sunday, September 11, 2016, at 11:00 am. Prayer services will follow at the Sikh Temple, 2468 Tierra Buena Rd. Yuba City, CA.
